If you’ve been in the blogging community for a while, you have probably heard that Pinterest has been unfairly taking down a whole bunch of content creators recently.

Accounts are being suspended left and right and domains are also being blocked so none of their pins are going through to their site when you click on them.

Some bloggers also report never recovering their account after Pinterest banned them, which is a content creator’s worst nightmare!

If you need help recovering your Pinterest account, here is how to get out and stay out of Pinterest jail when your account has been blocked. | pinterest tips | pinterest marketing | blogging tips | blog tips | grow your blog traffic | grow your blog with pinterest

Being in a few different Facebook groups, I had heard of this happening before.

I always felt lucky that it had never happened to me because I rely mostly on Pinterest traffic right now to get blog views so it’s a scary thought when something so widespread like this happens.

My Experience With Being Suspended

Well, lo and behold, at the end of July, I received the dreaded email from Pinterest in my inbox early in the morning, letting me know that my website was suspended for going against their spam policies.

In the email, they didn’t let me know the specific reason why I was blocked or the exact actions I did that marked my account as spam.

From the email I received, any form of spam includes:

  • Saving unwanted or repetitive content
  • Gaming their system
  • Posting deceptive, fraudulent, or unsolicited commercial messages

..All of which I did NOT do!

My heart sank!

Luckily, I am happy to say that my account was reinstated after almost a month but that wasn’t without numerous emails from Pinterest telling me that they were not going to reactivate my account.  I was gung-ho on making sure I got my account back because as I said previously, Pinterest is a big driver of traffic for me right now.

What To Do When Your Pinterest Account Has Been Suspended

Now if you’re on this page right now, I’m assuming you found this post because you are currently also in the same situation and need help recovering your account.

Here are the steps I recommend to follow to re-activate your Pinterest account.

1. Contact Their Help Desk

The first thing you should do when you find out that you’re suspended is to fill out a Pinterest help desk ticket.

Navigate to the top right hand corner of your profile –> Click the 3 dots on the right –> Click Help.

contact Pinterest help desk

Next, under Account Access and Safety –> Click See More.

This will bring you to the Account Access and Safety Page –> Click Account Suspension.

Then click Contact Us at the very bottom of the page.

Next, you’ll see the Get More Help page. –> Under Appeals, click Appeal Account Suspension.

Then click Continue at the bottom of the page.

In the next page, fill out the form.  You should explain your situation and let them know that you were not spamming and would like to get your account reinstated.

After you submit your issue, you’ll get an automated email from Pinterest that says they will typically respond within a few hours, up to a few days.

You shouldn’t just stop here though, because in my experience, they don’t provide any updates and you’ll just be left wondering if your account will ever be re-activated.

2. Email Support

Next, you’ll want to shoot off an email to support at support [at] pinterest-business.zendesk.com.

In the email subject, I recommend that you use a subject title that is attention grabbing.

Next, write an email that includes details on:

  • What happened – explain how Pinterest suspended your account
  • Give them your blog URL
  • State what your site does and that you don’t have spam on your site
  • Explain your pin strategy, if you use Tailwind, and the ratio of your pins versus other people’s pins
  • Let them know that you’ll review their guidelines and ensure you’ll follow the rules
  • Ask them to manually review your account and ask them to reinstate your account

You’ll probably then receive a reply later from a Pinterest support staff that says they have forwarded the email to the correct team.

3.  Repeat Step 1 & 2

Once you’ve sent off a help desk ticket and emailed support, wait a few days and see what are your results.

If you don’t receive a reply from Pinterest and you’re still suspended, repeat steps 1 and 2 above.

Do this everyday for a few days and you should get a response.

For me, I kept getting multiple email responses from the support email that they wouldn’t reactivate my account each time I emailed them.  They wouldn’t give me the reason why, except that I was spamming, which really wasn’t helpful at all.

I had to keep emailing them (almost everyday for a whole month) before they released my account again.  Side note: They still didn’t let me know the exact reason why I was suspended in the end so this whole thing is still a mystery to me.

Regardless, I am super grateful that I was able to get it back because I was a wreck during the few weeks that I had to deal with this whole fiasco.

It was also a huge wakeup call for myself that I need to not put all of my eggs in one basket and that it’s healthy to focus on multiple traffic methods, such as SEO or utilizing an email list.

Takeaway

I hope this was helpful if you were wrongly suspended.  Just keep staying consistent and contact Pinterest every few days and they should eventually reinstate your account if you didn’t do anything wrong.

Be sure to be proactive after getting your account back and make sure you are always following their community guidelines so that this doesn’t happen again.

Good luck!

  1. This post is only 2 months old and they have already retired the creator-support email address and are making me go through the standard “help” channel which always gets me a bot response. Thank you so much for this though, if you have any other insight as to how to reach an actual person, would love an update!

    1. Hi Laura. So sorry to hear you’ve been having trouble with Pinterest. You might want to try support [at] pinterest-business.zendesk.com. Let me know if that email works!

  2. I’ve just had my pinterest account suspended for reasons not clear to me today. I’ve contacted their support but to no avail so far, except for what appear to be automated responses.

    1. Hi Stephen, sorry to hear about being suspended. I recommend that you keep contacting them. They kept giving me automated messages too multiple times but eventually I was able to get in touch with someone. It took a long time and the wait is hard. I get it’s totally frustrating but please don’t give up!
